"Holy Mary Mother of Birds" portrays a variety of roles women play, whether in the Catholic Church or at home; the mother, the nun, the saint and the priest. The women are real and embodied in the choices they make. Birds are messengers and are the only animal that can be a part of both earth and air. What freedom! And don’t humans inspire to be birdlike with their airplanes, eating habits and desire to ‘build a nest’?

We are all on a life path, both in this physical dimension and into dimensions beyond our comprehension. My work journeys into these dimensions, to where spirit and totem animals are honored for their guidance, where the journey is honored as much if not more than the destination, and where the ego no longer exists. I touch on sacred geometry, numerology, and the four principles of Chanoyu (Japanese Tea Ceremony) which are Wa Kei Sei Jaku (harmony, respect, purity and tranquility).

This collection focus on birth; yes the birth of children but more so the birth of ideas, opportunities, and eras in our lifetime. Every day we are born anew and have the choice to make it better than yesterday. My work honors that and reminds me to pay attention to every little thing I do and be better than I was.
